Art is how she makes sense of the world. Kathryn Redlund (b. 2003, American) is an illustrator, designer, and studio artist based in Tennessee. She works across digital and physical media, specializing in digital illustration and visual communication. Her work is recognized for expressive line, layered color relationships, and within her digital work she uses textured surfaces that emulate traditional studio techniques. Drawing influence from poetry, contemporary art, and design culture, Redlund develops narrative-driven compositions that balance emotion with clarity. Her practice explores identity, atmosphere, and visual storytelling while remaining grounded in accessibility and inclusive design. Working within a highly digital creative landscape, she uses design as both a craft and a profession, shaping work that connects people, communicates ideas, and invites interpretation.

Key Strengths

  •  Strong written and verbal communication

  •  Team-oriented and collaborative

  •  Detail-oriented and innovative

  •  Adaptable and flexible in fast-paced environments

Design is how I assert my existence. Every piece I create carries

intention, labor, and personal investment. Whether I am working digitally or by hand, I use art to respond to the world around me. Creating is instinctual to me, not optional. Design gives that instinct structure and purpose.

My work is not purely decorative but rather communicative. Meaning may surface through emotion, symbolism, or form, but it is always deliberate. I believe design should hold presence and command attention. A strong composition should reward looking closely and leave a lasting impression. I strive to create work that feels alive through layered construction, visual tension, and thoughtful pacing. I am drawn to complexity and controlled chaos. Line often becomes a unifying element that holds my compositions together, while complex color relationships generate atmosphere and mood. In my digital work, I pursue texture, depth, and material illusion. Even in a digital environment, I aim to preserve the sensitivity and irregularity of studio-based processes. I value work that shows evidence of thought, rather than appearing detached. While my process is intuitive, it is also guided by reflection and research. I am influenced by the way poetry constructs meaning through suggestion and rhythm, and I bring that sensibility into how I create and design my work. I am equally shaped by contemporary art and design culture, constantly learning through observation and engagement with other creatives. I believe visual language evolves through conversation, and my work exists as part of that dialogue.

My professional focus is digital illustration as well as page layout & typography, though my practice extends freely across physical and digital media. I am especially interested in narrative-driven design and advertising. I believe

strong design does not merely persuade but connects. It creates recognition, empathy, and curiosity. I do not

believe art exists only to function. Meaning is shaped by perception, context, and experience, not just utility. I

approach design with the understanding that art reflects and influences society. I value diversity, equity, and accessibility, and I believe design should be actively inclusionary rather than exclusionary. My work aims to be emotionally aware and inclusive by intention, not just appearance.

For me, art and design is how I engage with the world. It is both response and initiative, as well as.                                     reflective and constructive. I am an illustrator, designer, and studio artist because making is

necessary for me. Art and design is how I understand the world and speak onto it. Through both, I

create work meant to be seen, felt, and remembered.
